Cornelis Tromp

Cornelis Tromp (1653–1738), also known as Cornelis Maartensz Tromp, was a Dutch admiral who served in the Dutch Navy during the late 17th and early 18th centuries. He is widely recognized for his role in the Anglo-Dutch Wars and his later service in the Imperial Russian Navy. Tromp, whose name translates to קורנליס טרומפ in Hebrew, Cornelis Tromp in German, and Cornélius Tromp in French, was the son of the renowned Dutch admiral Maarten Tromp. Cornelis Tromp's career was marked by significant naval engagements, including the Battle of Beachy Head (1690) and the Battle of Barfleur (1692), where he demonstrated his strategic prowess and leadership. His service in the Russian Navy under Peter the Great further cemented his reputation as a distinguished naval commander. Tromp's legacy endures in maritime history, highlighting his contributions to naval warfare and his influence on European naval power dynamics during his era.
