Gad

Gad is a figure from the Hebrew Bible, the son of Jacob and Zilpah, the handmaid of Leah. The name Gad is Hebrew for "luck" or "fortune." In the Bible, Gad is also the name of one of the twelve tribes of Israel, traditionally descended from this son of Jacob. The tribe of Gad settled east of the Jordan River, in the region of Gilead, and was known for its warrior traditions. The name Gad is also found in other contexts, such as in the Book of Ezekiel, where it refers to a prophetic symbol. In Arabic, the name is transliterated as جاد (Jād), and in Greek, it is Γαδ (Gad).
