Mahadasha Cycles

Mahadasha cycles, also known as major periods, are a fundamental concept in Vedic astrology (Jyotish), a traditional Hindu system of astronomy and astrology. The term Mahadasha is derived from the Sanskrit words maha (great) and dasha (period), and it refers to the extended planetary periods that govern an individual's life according to their birth chart. In Hebrew, this concept can be loosely translated as תקופות גדולות (great periods). Other relevant translations include Mahadāśā in Sanskrit, Mahadasha in Hindi, and Mahadasha in Bengali. Each planet has a specific duration it rules as the Mahadasha, influencing various aspects of life such as health, career, relationships, and spiritual growth. The sequence and duration of these periods are determined by the position of the planets at the time of birth, with the Moon's sign (Nakshatra) playing a crucial role in determining the starting point. The most well-known system of Mahadasha is the Vimshottari Dasha system, which is widely used in Vedic astrology for predictive purposes.
